Position Summary:
The Laboratory Assistant supports daily clinical laboratory operations under the supervision of the Laboratory Director. This role assists with phlebotomy and basic laboratory procedures across multiple departments, ensures accurate specimen handling and documentation, and maintains a safe, organized work environment. The position involves frequent interaction with patients of all ages, healthcare staff, and the public while adhering to CLIA, HIPAA, and hospital safety standards.
Qualifications:
Prefer High School graduate or equivalent. Certification as a laboratory assistant preferred. Experience as a phlebotomist; drawing neonates, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics a plus. Needs to have moderate knowledge of medical terminology, and excellent verbal written and clerical skills. Qualifications in accordance with Federal Register (CLIA 88) part 493, subpart M, Personnel Qualifications.
Primary Function:
Under the general supervision of the laboratory director, the laboratory assistant performs certain laboratory procedures in Phlebotomy, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Serology, Microbiology, and Hematology. These procedures exclude any which are performed only by licensed personnel under state or national licensure regulations.

General Public, representatives of other health care facilities, physicians, and other in house departmental personnel. Patients, and patient’s families.
Physical Demands
Medium work lifting up to 50 lbs. and/ or carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs. responsible for lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects.
Work Environment
Hazardous working conditions in which individual is exposed to definite risk of bodily injury through contact with moving instrumentation, chemicals, and/or body fluids. Sufficient noise and interruptions.
